A Bridge to the Future: MCP Selects Vitumbiko Mumba as 2025 Running Mate
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has reaffirmed its commitment to visionary, youthful, and regionally inclusive leadership by naming Hon. Vitumbiko Mumba, current Minister of Trade and Industry, as its 2025 presidential running mate.
This choice reflects a leadership strategy that understands the moment: a time
for fresh energy, economic discipline, and bold ideas. Mumba brings to the
ticket the strength of the North (Mzimba District), deep public sector
experience, and a youth-friendly image that resonates with the aspirations of a
new Malawi.
As Minister of Trade, he has led efforts on economic diplomacy, export
diversification, and local industrial revitalization. His academic credentials
include a BSc in Civil Engineering (University of Malawi) and an MBA from
Stellenbosch Business School (South Africa). Before entering politics, he
gained over a decade of experience in civil engineering across Malawi,
Botswana, and Namibia, including leading Surge Infrastructure Development Ltd
and various public‑private
infrastructure projects.
Importantly, this nomination honors the democratic strength of MCP—it was a
competitive field, and contenders such as Right Honourable Catherine Gotani
Hara remain respected leaders whose contributions continue to inspire.
Now is the time to unite behind President Chakwera and Hon. Mumba, as they
carry the MCP banner into the next election with clarity, cross-regional
balance, and economic purpose.
Let’s move forward as one. Tonse philosophy, national unity, and progress for
all.
